After weeks, if not months, of hard work, our club's annual prize-giving ceremony took place on Friday night.
The common consensus was that it went really well. The star attraction on the night was Allan Wells and it was fascinating to hear some of the psychology he applied during his successful competitive years.
We'd all hoped that his words would inspire our young athletes and they certainly seemed to do just that. His track session the following morning was very well received and gave our coaches some food for thought.
Lots more to do on the club front but for now, I'm just glad that it all went so smoothly - although I have to admit to having had some heart flutters when his plane was delayed and didn't touch down until 6.30pm.
Worry about the things we can control - don't worry about the rest. A good motto.
Amid all this talk about running, all I've done in the past week is the club's Tuesday night session.
I set out several times with the intention of running but work or some other minor inconvenience got in the way.
Need to try to knuckle down a bit this week.

SAL awards dinner
Mrs Coyle, imbibing in wine at the awards dinner last night.
It was at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow and began shortly after Scotland exited from the European Championship qualifiers, going down 1-2 against Italy.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. We had to leave home with about 20 minutes to go and I still haven't see the Italians' winning goal. I don't really want to.
Anyway, there's always something else to look forward to (as I told Sophie last night).
The awards were good fun. Steve Backley, the Olympic javelin chucker, was the guest of honour and we had a few drinks with him later in the evening.
I'm aiming for Motherwell AC to be among the prize-winners next year!

Niggle knee
Thank goodness (not quite the word I'd like to use) it's Friday. It feels like it's been a super-long week but it's not over yet.
I'm now on call for a week for the whole newsroom so fingers crossed there isn't a major incident.
The Peter Tobin story is rumbling on after the discovery of a second body at the house in Kent. The story's been a huge legal challenge all week such that the Contempt of Court Act has been shot to pieces.
I had a very cautious four miles or so last night.
My knee was fine throughout but it's been pretty sore since. Ho hum.
It's the Scottish Athletics awards dinner tomorrow night.
I've been invited to a reception beforehand with the guest of honour Steve Backley (and many others) and the Queen's grand-wean Zara is at our table so it should be interesting.
Only thing is that I can't drink during the Scotland v Italy game or I'll be gubbed by 9pm!

iPhone
So I took the plunge and bought an iPhone. Sad? Geeky? Couldn't care less! It works for me.
One thing though, I didn't queue for hours for mine. There were a few folk waiting outside the O2 store at Glasgow Fort but it only took about 10 minutes to get in and out.
I'd gone into the Carphone Warehouse there but their chip and pin system crashed at 6pm. There was no sign of it working 15 minutes later so they must have lost a lot of income, mine included.
I'd expected some hassle with the activation process but it worked without a hitch later that evening.
I don't want to hear any more about the cost of the iPhone or the 18-month contract. When I got the Blackberry I paid for it and it was on the same length of contract so enough already please!
Like anything other commodity, it'll work for some and not for others. I fall into the former group. I'm not saying the iPhone is perfect but there are no deal-breaking issues in it for me. Quite the reverse. The ability to hit the web using wi-fi is the clincher.
Friday will be remembered for being the day Glasgow won the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It's a superb outcome.
It's a thought that I'll be 49, Fiona will be 51 and Sophie will be 17 when the games take place.
Today I feel all of my 42 years. Jane, if you're reading this, I hope your hangover has gone and thanks again for last night.
Not great news on the running front. I went out with Alex and Min yesterday afternoon. Five miles along the Clyde Walkway.
My knee was giving me jip from about a mile. My hip and lower back were achey as well. I'll just wait and see how it goes this week.
I suppose I'd better say something about the picture of the cat.
Sophie and I spotted a cat bandana in a shop in Bellshill today and she decided it would look good on Miggins.
I think that's all that needs to be said.

Big day today...
2014 Commonwealth Games announcement at lunchtime and the iPhone out at 6.02pm.
Which is the more eagerly anticipated?
The former - no doubt about it. Come on you Glesca!
Will I still be using an iPhone in 2014? Doubt it.
That nice Kirsty in the O2 shop in Hamilton has put one under the counter for me.
Such a charmer!!!

Knee bad (pun on North-East dialect)
The news from the right knee is not good.
I decided against doing the club time trial last night because I hadn't run since a week past last Friday. I thought the best plan was to do a few miles on the treadmill in the Boathouse.
I did about 4.5 miles and the knee wasn't really sore, just a bit "twingy".
Unfortunately, by the time I got home it was bloody killing me and really hurt going up and down stairs.
This morning it's quite stiff and hurt like hell coming up the stairs at work.
Our plans for the prize-giving ceremony are starting to jack up now.
It'll be all right on the night!!!

Gruesome twosome
This was Sophie and Fiona on Friday night.
There was a Halloween party in the street and we'd all been invited. Unfortunately, I felt like shit all through the afternoon and by the time I got home it was enough to lie down and go to sleep. That was me for the night.
I had half a mind on Saturday because I had a Scottish Athletics awayday in Edinburgh, starting at 10am.
Thankfully the "man-flu" had lifted and I'm really glad I went on Saturday because it was just what I needed to help me understand the workings and structure of SAL.
The day sparked lots of thoughts in my mind about some more strategic approaches to work and Motherwell AC stuff. I only hope I'm able to contribute meaningfully to SAL.
Talking of athletics and the like, have I run since a week past Friday? No.
I was going to go out this morning but my right knee is nipping away so I'm going to leave it for another day or so and will probably do the time trial on Tuesday night.
