The tale of a BMW

Car

That's us back from our now annual pilgrimage to Bute to mark our wedding anniversary.

For the third year in a row, we've stayed at the Balmory Hall, a totally fantastic bed and breakfast place where we spent our wedding night. There are more pictures elsewhere on flickr.

This time we went in quite a lot of style - a BMW 3 Series Coupe given to us for the weekend by Harry Fairbairn.

In a nutshell, they'd like us to buy it. In a nutshell, I'd like to buy it. Negotiations are under way. Watch this space for an outcome but all I can say is that it's truly just a a fantastic piece of machinery.

Fiona's a bit confused by the electric seat-belt handovers but she's a girl so what can you expect?

For the third year, the sun shone brightly as we went over on the ferry and it stayed really nice all day Saturday.

What else to do when in Rothesay but go to the Black Bull and this time was no different.

Back this afternoon and reluctantly handed over the car then home to two grumpy cats. Feckers.

This week may be telling for Fiona job-wise. She should hear about a couple of interviews she's had. Fingers crossed that at least one is positive.

I got several runs in last week. Again, a bit inconsistent but aiming for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday this week, with the National Road Relays on Saturday.

New Rush album nears!!!

Sod waiting until Sunday for another post ...

There was a short clip from one track on Rush's new album Snakes & Arrows on the band's website.

Overnight, they published a new-look site and put up the whole track, which is called "Far Cry".

Go Geddy! (Picture taken from rush.com)

It's just the dog's bollox, frankly and you can hear it here.

Pacific Quay - March

I had another visit to our new home at Pacific Quay on Friday so I managed to get some up-to-date pictures.

It's very different from the last time I was there which was about two months ago. There are now desks throughout the newsroom and the technical fit-out is pretty well advanced.

The first people from our department will move the week after the elections on May 3 so there isn't that long to go.

I managed a couple of runs this week, one round Canniesburn Toll on Monday and Hamilton on Thursday. Add to that the Red Brick this morning and it wasn't so bad.

Unfortunately I'm still getting a niggle in my left achilles which I may yet have to ask a physio to look at.

The cats are becoming even crazier by the day. At least Miggsy is. How can he find such entertainment in a screwed-up supermarket till receipt which he plays with like a football?

Edinburgh as you've never seen it

I read about this time-lapse video in The Scotsman and was absolutely wowed by it.

Bits and pieces

New kit

The new kit arrived this week ... we booked our summer holidays ... and I managed two runs in six days!

From the top. After months of discussion, not all of it good-natured, the new gear in claret and amber was delivered on Monday and I was first to try it out.

It seems to have gone down well with most people, although there's been some swapping of vests to get smaller sizes.

Thursday was quite eventful. I was booked on a BA flight from Glasgow to Bristol at 0855 and was just leaving the house at 0700 to get into the taxi when the phone rang.

This was BA to say that the flight had been cancelled. The very helpful lady got me on the 0905 flight from Edinburgh to Bristol so it all worked out well.

I did a presentation on our weekly video download, BBC Scotland News Weekly, for the Journalism Forum, which is led by Nations & Regions' director Pat Loughrey.

He had some very kind words to say about it, which was good. He was particularly interested in the fact that we're about to put it on the telly for four weeks - Friday, 11.35pm, BBC Two Scotland - starting this week.

It's the first time we've put a "programme" (I don't like calling it that because it's the language of linear broadcasting) made for online/download on television and represents a reversal of the traditional commissioning process.

A couple of people in my enlarged Continuous News team were also in Bristol so we had a few pints en route home and had a good laugh.

Friday - through to Edinburgh for a meeting in the afternoon then back to Glasgow where several hoodlums were on the razz.

I had a few in the Horseshoe (has to be done when in the vicinity of Central Station) and was about to leave when Paul and Gary walked in. Cue more beer then a trip across to All Bar One where Billy was holding court.

Thankfully Fiona was able to rescue me at about 10.45pm after being at the ballet with her mum, Sophie and Emma.

The second run of the week was the Red Brick this morning with Alex and Alan.

This was genuinely a sedate plod round what's quite a tough course at the best of times.

I had my Garmin in my hand as I was going out the door but decided to leave it. Liberated from the tyranny of the timepiece!

Given that my motivation to run is shot to pieces at the moment, the last thing I need is to be trying to beat the watch. Much more important to run and enjoy.

Summer holidays? After weeks of hesitating, we decided to go for it and book up Anna Maria again and it's amazing what something like that can do, even though it's months away yet.

Fiona's really happy about it, so is Sophie. We've been looking back through last year's photos, which have stirred up all our great memories of the place.

Can't come soon enough!
